Call Sheet Optimization by RII Sports Technology
Use your film data to line up your strengths with your opponent's weaknesses
Effective play calling involves keeping your opponent off balance, guessing at what's coming next, and relentlessly attacking their weaknesses. When you’re able to reliably identify and attack your opponent’s weakness with one of your strengths you’re odds of winning those plays is drastically increased. Conversely, when you operate from uncertainty you’ll far too often unknowingly attack an opponent’s strength from a position of weakness – and lose.
The Play Calling Outcome Matrix
When you consistently attack your Opponent's Weaknesses from a position of Strength odds are you're going to dominate your opponent (the BLUE box on the Play Calling Matrix). Of course if you attack your Opponent's Strength from a position of Weakness you'll find yourself on the losing end far more often (you want to avoid the RED box on the Matrix).
Your strengths and weaknesses are informed by the Self Scout data you gather and maintain throughout the season. For any given situation on your Call Sheet, your Self Scout data can tell you the best possible call you can make.
Your Opponent’s strengths and weaknesses are informed by the Opponent Scout data you gather when you break down film each week. Again, for any situation on your Call Sheet, your film data can show you where your opponent struggles and where they are dangerous. Aligning your Strength with your opponent’s Weakness then is the key to successful play calling. The challenge lies in (1) insuring that your Self Scout and Opponent Scout data structured to be compatible with each other; and (2) syncing these two different sets of data together in order to flush out good and bad calls for any given situation.

Your Film Breakdown Data Holds the Key
You already have everything you need to Optimize your play calling. Your Opponent Scout film data contains all of your Opponent's situational Strengths and Weaknesses; and your Self Scout film data contains all of your team's situational Strengths and Weaknesses. RII Sports Technology leverages these two data sets to automatically identify your Optimal play call for any situation by instantly aligning your Strengths with your opponent's corresponding Weaknesses (the BLUE box in the Play Calling Matrix). At the same time we show you where the potential disaster calls lie by aligning your Weaknesses with your Opponent's Strengths (the RED box in the Play Calling Matrix).
You simply submit your Opponent and Self Scout film data, and in minutes we sync that with your Call Sheet to show you which play calls you should include or avoid when assembling your weekly call sheet. These results are packaged into an interactive Call Sheet Optimization report that makes it easy to quickly identify your optimal play calls. You can explore more by interacting with the Call Sheet Optimization report shown below.

As an example, let's say an Offensive Coordinator is examining one situation from his Call Sheet - with the ball on the Center Hash between the -6 to +46 Yard Line. He can see good and bad calls for that situation by clicking the Call Sheet Category drop-down button and selecting "C Hash_-6 to +46" (you can do the same on the interactive report above). When he does that he'll see Good Calls (In the DARK BLUE and LIGHT BLUE boxes) and Bad Calls (in the RED and ORANGE boxes) from both a Self Scout and Opponent Scout perspective. He can also use the filters at the top to modify his definition of what constitutes a good and bad call.
The best calls are those that are good from both a Self Scout and Opponent Scout perspective (shown in the DARK BLUE box in the Play Calling Matrix) as these represent situations where he'll be attacking his opponent's weakness with one of his strengths. In this case he'll see that Drop Back Plays are a great call in the C Hash_-6 to +46 Yard Line situation - it's a strength of his, and his opponent has struggled defending against Drop Back Plays in this situation.
Conversely, the worst calls are those that are bad from both a Self Scout and Opponent Scout perspective (shown in the DARK RED box in the Play Calling Matrix) as these represent situations where he'd be attacking an opponent's strength from a position of weakness. In this case he'll see that Play Action Passes are not a good call in the C Hash_-6 to +46 Yard Line situation - his offense has struggled with those in this situation and his opponent has been good against Play Action Passes here. He'd definitely want to avoid that call in this situation.
